Terms of Service
Last updated: 23 May 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") form a binding agreement between you ("you", "user") and KnowMax ("KnowMax", "we", "us", "our"), operated by Anirudh Mehta, in connection with your use of the KnowMax mobile application (the "App"), the website at knowmax.co.in, and any related services (together, the "Service").
By creating an account, installing the App, or otherwise using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. The Service
KnowMax helps you reduce passive social-media use by placing a reading-and-quiz "gate" in front of apps you select. To unlock a gated app for a session, you read a short curated article and answer a short comprehension quiz. The Service consists of the App, the curated article and quiz content, the streak and progress features, and the supporting infrastructure that delivers them.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are between 13 and the age of majority where you live, you confirm that a parent or legal guardian has reviewed these Terms and agreed to them on your behalf. The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with information, please contact privacy@knowmax.co.in and we will delete it.
3. Your Account
You create an account by signing in with a one-time link sent to your email address. You are responsible for keeping access to that email account secure and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us promptly at support@knowmax.co.in if you suspect unauthorised access.
You may delete your account at any time from inside the App (Profile → Delete Account) or from knowmax.co.in/delete-account. Deletion is permanent and removes your reading history, streak, preferences, and authentication record. Active subscriptions remain governed by the App Store or Google Play Store you purchased through.
4. Free Trial
New users receive a one-time free trial consisting of three (3) gated reads, available for the lifetime of the account. The trial begins on first sign-in. Once you have completed three gated reads, you must subscribe to continue using the gate. The trial is not refreshed or renewed on cancellation, reinstall, or account recreation tied to the same Apple ID or Google account.
5. Subscriptions, Billing, and Auto-Renewal
KnowMax is sold as a single-tier auto-renewing subscription with two billing options:
- Monthly: US $2.50 per month (or local-currency equivalent set by the App Store / Google Play Store)
- Annual: US $27.00 per year (or local-currency equivalent set by the App Store / Google Play Store)
Prices may vary by territory and are displayed at the point of purchase. Taxes may be added by Apple or Google depending on your jurisdiction.
Payment is collected through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store at the time of purchase confirmation. Your subscription will auto-renew at the end of each billing period at the then-current price unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends. Renewals are charged to the payment method on file with Apple or Google.
You may manage or cancel your subscription at any time:
- iOS: Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → KnowMax
- Android: Play Store → Profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → KnowMax
Cancellation stops future renewals; you retain access for the remainder of the paid period.
6. Refunds
Refund requests are handled by Apple and Google under their own policies, not by KnowMax directly. KnowMax does not process payments and cannot issue refunds.
- iOS: reportaproblem.apple.com
- Android: Google Play refund policy
Where local consumer-protection law grants you a right to a refund or withdrawal beyond Apple's or Google's policies, that statutory right is unaffected by these Terms.
7. Content and Licences
The articles delivered through the gate are sourced from third-party publishers and are licensed under one of the following permissive licences:
- Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY)
- Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike (CC BY-SA)
- Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivatives (CC BY-ND)
- Public Domain (including CC0)
- US Government works
We attribute each article to its original publisher and link back to the original source. KnowMax does not claim authorship of any article. Comprehension quizzes are generated by KnowMax using AI based on the article content; the quizzes themselves are KnowMax's work product.
If you believe an article has been included in error or your rights have been infringed, please contact support@knowmax.co.in with details and we will investigate and, where appropriate, remove the content.
8. Intellectual Property
The App, the KnowMax name, logo, design system, quiz content, and all KnowMax-authored text, software, and assets are owned by KnowMax (Anirudh Mehta) and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual-property laws.
Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to download, install, and use the App on devices you own or control, solely for your own personal, non-commercial use.
9. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Attempt to bypass, disable, or circumvent the reading gate, the quiz, the streak system, or the trial limit, including by exploiting bugs or modifying the App.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App, except to the extent expressly permitted by applicable law.
- Use automated systems (bots, scrapers) to interact with the Service, except for standard accessibility tools.
- Resell, redistribute, sublicense, or otherwise commercially exploit the Service or its content.
- Use the Service to violate any law or the rights of others, including intellectual-property and privacy rights.
- Interfere with the operation of the Service, including by transmitting malware, overloading our infrastructure, or attempting to gain unauthorised access to accounts or systems.
10. Device-Level Permissions
KnowMax uses platform-level features to apply the gate to social-media apps you select:
- iOS: the Screen Time / Family Controls framework. You grant permission in the App on first launch. The selection of apps you choose to gate is stored locally on your device and is opaque to KnowMax by design — we never see which specific apps are gated. You can revoke this permission at any time in Settings → Screen Time.
- Android: the AccessibilityService API (preferred) or the UsageStats permission (fallback). The service detects when a gated app is opened and displays the KnowMax gate. The list of gated apps is stored locally on your device. You can revoke these permissions in Settings → Accessibility and Settings → Special App Access.
Use of these permissions is described in more detail in our Privacy Policy.
11. Privacy
Our handling of your personal information is described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms. By agreeing to these Terms, you agree to the Privacy Policy.
12. Third-Party Services
The Service relies on the following third-party processors, each subject to its own terms and privacy policy:
- Apple App Store and Google Play Store — distribution, payment, refunds
- RevenueCat — subscription management
- Supabase — database, authentication, file storage
- Resend — transactional email delivery
- Anthropic — AI-generated comprehension quizzes (at content ingest time only; not at read time)
- PostHog — privacy-respecting product analytics (no advertising identifiers, IP geolocation disabled)
- Sentry — crash and error monitoring
- Vercel — website hosting
We are not responsible for the practices of these third parties.
13. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any defects will be corrected.
KnowMax is not a medical, mental-health, educational, or therapeutic service. The articles and quizzes are for general informational purposes only and are not a substitute for professional advice. KnowMax is a habit tool, not a treatment for social-media dependency or any other condition.
14. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, KnowMax (Anirudh Mehta) shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising from or related to your use of the Service.
KnowMax's total aggregate liability to you for any claim arising out of or related to these Terms or the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the total amount you paid KnowMax (through Apple or Google) in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim, or (b) US $50.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law (including liability for fraud, death, or personal injury caused by our negligence).
15. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold KnowMax (Anirudh Mehta) harmless from any claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these Terms or your misuse of the Service.
16. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you breach these Terms, if required by law, or if continued provision becomes commercially impracticable. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, governing law) will survive.
17. Changes to the Service
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time, with or without notice. If we discontinue the Service entirely while you hold a paid subscription, you may be entitled to a pro-rata refund of any unused portion through Apple or Google, subject to their respective policies.
18. Changes to These Terms
We may revise these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. If we make material changes, we will notify you in the App or by email before the changes take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree to the revised Terms, your remedy is to stop using the Service and cancel your subscription.
19. Apple-Specific Terms
If you use the App on an Apple device, you acknowledge:
- These Terms are between you and KnowMax, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the App or its content.
- Your licence to use the App is limited to use on Apple-branded devices you own or control, as permitted by the Apple Media Services Terms.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the App.
- If the App fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any). To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation.
- Apple is not responsible for product claims, intellectual-property claims, or consumer-protection claims relating to the App.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms with the right to enforce them against you.
20. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Subject to any non-waivable rights you may have under the consumer-protection laws of your country of residence, the courts of Mumbai, India shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms or the Service.
If you are a consumer resident in the European Union, United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction whose law grants you a non-waivable right to bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence, that right is preserved.
21. Severability and Entire Agreement
If any provision of these Terms is held to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and KnowMax regarding the Service and supersede any prior agreements.
